DANGER CLUB #11

MAYDAY!

In this Danger Club event, we’re going to talk about emergencies and how we handle them.

01

The incident

Our intro incident this time is a Cargo Fire on a Boeing 747 just airborne from Tokyo. The crew repeatedly try to communicate their emergency to ATC, but the message is not getting through. Watch the playback video below.

02

Danger Club

We are just a bunch of pilots having a chat about safety danger. It’s a safe space to talk about things we normally don’t. All pilots welcome (and for this one, all Air Traffic Controllers too!)

03

What we might talk about.

We never know quite where the conversation will go, but there is a good chance we’ll be asking some of these questions …

  • What should you say to ATC when something goes BANG – and is it the right thing to say? Are you sure?
  • Declaring an Emergency – is it actually a meaningless phrase?
  • What happens – internationally – if you Don’t Say MAYDAY?
  • Can a pilot actually Declare an Emergency?
  • Why is it that ATC talks so much during emergencies – major distraction ?
  • Who really needs that Souls and Fuel information and why does ATC ask?
  • Do you have an Emergency story to share?
